from 2001, among Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan, for the following reasons. Appropriate timing: It was fortunate that we could start the POME project ten years ago. Generally, it is difficult to obtain the data of past environments although advances of technologies have enabled to reconstruct the past conditions recorded in sediment layers or hard tissues of some organisms. Thus, it is important to start to accumulate the data as soon as possible, compare the previous and present data, and take measures (Fig. 1). Appropriate member countries: Japan has advanced technologies for analyses of pollutions and also has experiences of severe marine pollution and recovery. This program was good opportunity to transfer the technologies and experiences to the five Southeast Asian countries that are rapidly developing at present. In fact, scientists with high motivation and potential have been participated from the five countries. Appropriate combination of projects: The CMS program contains four major projects, material transport, harmful algal Chapter 8

Contamination, Toxicity and Ecological Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Surface Sediments of Coastal Areas of Bushehr Province: A Systematic Review Study
Background: Heavy metals due to their ecological risks and high toxicity to living organisms are considered as one of the most dangerous pollutants. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the level of pollution, toxicity and the ecological risks of heavy metals in the coastal surface sediments of Bushehr province using systematic review. Methods: To conduct this review study,...
متن کاملWater Quality Modeling in Persian Gulf Considering Thermal Pollution Sources of Industrial Plants
Numerical modeling is carried out to investigate the spreading pattern of industrial wastewater released from coastal refineries and power plant into thePersian Gulf. The pollutant sources due to the wastewater outfall of the coastal industrial plants are completely considered in the model. The effects of sources are inspected on the adjacent marine environment. The numerical model is developed...
متن کاملSpatial and Seasonal Trend of Trace Metals and Ecological Risk Assessment along Kanyakumari Coastal Sediments, Southern India
The concentration of selected trace metals (Fe, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) in 30surface sediments were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer to investigatethe spatial and seasonal variations of trace metals along Kanyakumari coast, India. Toassess the environmental risk of trace metals, enrichment factor, geo-accumulation index, pollution load index, and ecological risk index have been calculat...
متن کاملIdentification and study of some ecological indicators of Scyphomedusae from coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan (the North of Persian Gulf)
Coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces are very important in the fisheries industry. Due to of direct and indirect impacts of the Jellyfish on the dynamic of fish larvae and zooplankton, study of their population is very important. So that in this study scyphomedusae were collected in summer and winter of 2015 from 6 stations of coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan. Sampling w...
متن کاملEvaluation of ecological status of the Persian Gulf inshore waters (Hormozgan rocky bottoms) using macrophytic communities and a macroalgae biological index, EEI
Marine benthic macrophytes (seaweed and seagrasses) are key structural and functional components of some of the most productive ecosystems of the world. They absorb nutrients through their surface directly from the marine environment and thus they are very important biological elements for the estimation of ecological status, representing reliable indicators of coastal waters. The aim of this s...
